Spanning 2,500 square miles (6,216 square kilometers) spanning Carbon, Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties in northeastern Pennsylvania, the Pocono Mountains region encompasses a terrain of rolling mountains, dramatic waterfalls, lush forests and 173 miles of winding rivers.
In the winter, visitors have the opportunity to ski, snowboard, snow slide and even snowshoe through the snowy wonderlands that include more than 163 ski slopes. In the summer, active visitors can explore 260 miles of hiking and biking trails, more than 35 golf courses, whitewater rafting, boating, fishing, and free access to nine state parks and two national parks.

Any time of year is perfect to visit the Pocono Mountains, a short distance from the most important cities on the East Coast. This history-steeped region offers year-round cultural tours and art shows, plenty of name-brand and antique shops, and a full calendar of festivals showcasing the heritage, music, and food of the Pocono Mountains.

Even the most discerning traveler will be able to satisfy their lodging needs as the Pocono Mountains offer an eclectic mix of resorts, upscale hotels, quaint country inns and bed and breakfasts.

All of this makes the Pocono Mountains region ideal for corporate meetings and conventions, reunions, family vacations, couples getaways and weddings, or a short bus ride.

The Pocono Mountains are the ideal place for outdoor enthusiasts. While these mountains are a favorite destination for couples and families who enjoy their cozy hotels, they also attract many hikers, mountain bikers and, during the winter, a large number of skiers and snowboarders.

My day starts with an adventure: zip lining Camelback Mountain. The cables are located in the middle of the forest, so you can fly above the trees, obviously in complete safety. For those who prefer something a little more comfortable, I recommend trying the zip-flyer. It is a kind of chair in which you can glide quickly from the top of the mountain towards the valley. For children and adults who are fans of roller coasters, there is the Appalachian Express Mountain Coaster, a fast roller coaster that passes through the middle of the forest.

Next, we visited the largest paintball facility in the world. There are castles, tanks and bridges located over the rivers and in the surrounding forests. In this place, people can compete with each other and test their skills. It has more than 50 playing fields, which offer everything a paintball lover could want.

I do not participate in the paintball game, however, I am looking forward to our next adventure: white water rafting on the Lehigh River. Equipped with life jackets and with the help of an experienced guide, we splash through the rapids to catch our breath in calmer waters enjoying the beautiful scenery.
